    Mossberg 590 Shockwave

I picked up a Shockwave this afternoon, along with six five packs of 2 3/4" #4 buck (all they had), and I plan on shooting it at the end of next Tuesday's IDPA practice.

For those that aren't familiar with the model; it's a 12 gauge pump shotgun (cyliner bore) with a 14" barrel, and a birds head style pistol grip. It's chambered for both 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

I actually went to my favorite LGS looking for one a few weeks ago, and found that they pretty much sell as soon as they come in, so I "got on the list" for one, and Mike called me yesterday to let me know that it had come in.

It came "well oiled," so I took it over to the bench, field stripped it and cleaned off all the oil from the action and bore, then wiped it down with Eezox.

I intend to use it primarily as my truck gun.

Also; I was surprised at what a nice trigger pull it came with.

I have one Rick. I bought 5 boxes (20 rounds each) of mini slugs at Shoot Straight.

I bought the adaptor Mossberg sells to allow the Shockwave to cycle the minis dependably...

The mini slugs throw a 386 gr slug at 1250 FPS! About 1200 ft lbs of energy.

I collect Rimfire Firearms (.17 HMR, 5 mm Magnum, 5 mm Craig , 6 mm Flobert, .22 LR, and .22 Magnum), especially Mossberg's. I look for old, different, unique, or rare rifles and handguns in any rimfire caliber as well as parts. If you have anything in this category you want to sell or trade please e-mail me at fatboyflorida@gmail.com or PM me here on the forum.

    Cool!

I like #4 buck, having killed several deer with it, using only one shot. That gives me 21 24 caliber pellets (.240") per round.

I saw the mini slugs at 'Ol Time, But I don't know if Mike stocks the adaptors or not.

I've hunted with a few guys over the years that used slugs, and all have missed deer, and even hogs, with them. I've never missed a deer shooting buckshot, and I really like the way it performs.

I'm thinking it was about three weeks from when I got on the list until I got mine, Richard.

I shot #4 buck and some #6 shot field loads with the Shockwave yesterday.

It points and shoots well, and I didn't find the recoil bad at all with the 2 3/4" shells.

Follow up shots can be made as quickly as you can rack another shell into the chamber, which is fairly quick.

I found it pretty quick using the method Clint Smith was using; holding the forearm stationary and pushing the gun forward and pulling it back by the grip with the right hand.

Four other shooters tried it out with the field loads, and everyone liked it.
